| To our Staff and Advisors:
Many of you are already getting messages from Microsoft Automatic Updates to download the new IE7 browser. As such, I am frequently being asked when to upgrade to IE7, here is my answer and some important things you should know:
- Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7.0 (IE7) on October 18th.
- Microsoft has stated that, as of November 01, 2006, it plans to push IE 7 as a part of their High-priority updates via Automatic Updates to Windows XP SP2, Windows XP 64-bit Edition, and Windows Server 2003 SP1 machines. (Note: To ensure you do not download IE7 with other important High-Priority Updates follow item #7 below.)
- If you install 7.0, there is no rollback option, or uninstall feature which would restore your previous version.
- There are several compatibility issues I have found with existing sites including the Financial Horizons Group website.
- I am currently researching our Carrier sites w/r/t what compatibility issues they anticipate and what their position will be going forward. I will keep you apprised as I investigate this further.
- Based on the above, I do not recommend that you upgrade to IE7 until all of the kinks have been worked out with the sites we regularly deal with.
- Microsoft has made available an option to Block the Automatic delivery of IE7. This is available on their site via the following link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en. I recommend you click the link and follow the steps so that you will not be forced to download or use IE7 until a future date (tbd). - If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Nola
